Radiator and Heating Upgrade in Surrey

The Brief

A homeowner in Surrey got in touch because their heating never felt quite right. Some rooms ran too hot while others stayed cold, and the whole house was controlled by a single dated thermostat with no way to adjust individual rooms. They wanted more even heat, better day-to-day control and a system that would run more efficiently through the colder months. After a visit and a free, no-obligation quote from Josh, we put together a plan to bring the heating up to date without the cost of a full system replacement.

What We Did

Our work on the day covered three connected improvements:

• New radiators fitted: We replaced the tired, undersized radiators with correctly sized new units, so each room now gets the heat output it actually needs. The old radiators were drained down, removed and disposed of, and the new ones fitted and connected neatly.
• Thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) upgrades: The old manual valves were swapped for thermostatic radiator valves. TRVs let the homeowner set a comfortable temperature room by room, so bedrooms, the living room and the hallway can each be dialled in rather than all running off one setting.
• Smart heating controls installed: We fitted a smart heating control (a Hive system), giving the homeowner scheduling and control from their phone. Heating can now be timed around the family's routine and adjusted remotely, which cuts down on heating empty rooms.
• Balanced and tested: With the new radiators and valves in place, we balanced the system so hot water flows evenly around the house, then ran it through full heat cycles to confirm every radiator warmed up properly and the controls responded as they should.
• Handover and advice: Before leaving, we walked the homeowner through the smart controls and TRVs, and gave straightforward advice on getting the most efficient set-up for their home.

The Result

The home now heats evenly, room by room, with none of the hot-and-cold patchiness the homeowner had put up with before. The combination of correctly sized radiators, thermostatic radiator valves and smart controls means they can heat only the rooms they are using, when they are using them, which makes the system both more comfortable and more efficient to run.

Best of all, the homeowner now has proper control over their heating from their phone and from each radiator, rather than one thermostat trying to manage the whole house. It is a good example of how a few well-chosen upgrades can transform an existing system without the expense of replacing everything.
